This
is what you would have seen driving past the Cottonwood Health Care
Center during the candlelight vigil. Though it took an astute observer
to note the candlelight on this summer evening, the crowd provided
enough heat and light to alert the city of Woodland that this nursing
home was heading for Troubletown.... |

Bill
Watson, chief shop steward at Mercy General Hospital, Sacramento,
CA, and member of Local 250, speaking to the crowd. . He and other
coworkers present could not help but remember that we had been ready
to go on strike several months ago when our contract bargaining stalled.
We got our contract without striking, but we understood how events
could take this unfortunate turn, and were glad to be in solidarity
with these nursing home employees. |
